Branding Before Design
Why a website designed before the brand is defined usually has to be redesigned.
Why a website designed before the brand is defined usually has to be redesigned.
A brand is not a logo; it is the set of choices that makes a business recognisable — what it says, how it looks, how it behaves. Without those decisions, every design decision becomes a fresh argument.
Before choosing colours, decide who the business is for and what it stands for. Two businesses with identical palettes can feel completely different if their positioning differs — and vice versa.
A brand documented as rules — type pairings, spacing, voice, image treatment — survives new staff, new agencies and new platforms. A brand that exists only as finished artwork does not.
